Sunday Drivers
Trace' and I went out for a nice Sunday drive which of course included prospecting. We picked an area we knew pretty well but chose a trail we had never followed. We found a nice spot and pulled over. I got out and began looking at the ground. To my amazement I found all kinds of collectable rocks in a pile by some bushes. This included Apache Tears, Turquoise, Copper, and several others. We couldn't believe it! It was like someone had dumped their rock collection on the ground. So we gathered them up, put on our rain ponchos, grabbed the GMT and hit the wash. The first 45 minutes were spent digging trash, nails, bullets, pull tabs. We kept going up the wash and Trace' was becoming tired in the cold carrying the detector so I took over and gave her the digging tools. Call it luck but within 5 minutes I had a real nice ZIP - ZIP and got a good feeling. Trace' began cleaning the bedrock and unearthed a nice 3 gram nugget. We drove a few more miles back in and found an old mine and hunted the tailings. No gold there but some real nice specimens of other minerals. It was about 40' out now and I was ready for some hot coffee so we packed in the Jeep and headed back to town.
